Growing up in Tennessee, I used to go for nightly rides with my horse Butterscotch in the scorching summer sun. Through these peaceful rides through the Smoky Mountains of East Tennessee, I developed a curiosity and became intrigued with the intricacies of these "misty mountains" (The Hobbit). My first (and current) love was/is literature, and my first introduction to that magical and adventurous world was reading The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit. In addition to reading literature, one of my favorite books is Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen. My infatuation with Romantic Era writers and fantasy novels led me to Oxford University this past summer, where I spent a month at Pembroke college studying the great works of J.R. Tolkien, C.S. Lewis, Lewis Carrol, and Phillip Pullman. After returning home from this amazing summer camp, I decided that I wanted to become more actively involved in any local literary program that I could get my hands on. Having been fortunate enough to be a contributor for the Yawp last school year, I was shocked when I learned that my application had been accepted to become one of the newspaper's editors! One of the greatest joys I have being an editor, is reading articles from so many different students and encouraging them to harness their uniqueness and put it into everything they write. I look forward to continuing my work as co-editor of the Yawp and another amazing year of great articles!
