Five Years at Freddy’s

Alie-Jean Brewer

Five nights at Freddy’s is quickly approaching its five-year anniversary on August 8th, 2019. Five Nights at Freddy’s is an animated horror game where the player takes the place of a security guard at the famous Freddy’s Fazbears Pizza. At night the four animatronics (Bonnie, Chica, Freddy, and Foxy) wander the halls so their systems don’t lock up and cause the robots to break. The catch is, if these characters see you, they will think you are an endoskeleton (what makes the robots move) and try to stuff you into a suit. There are so many mysteries to unlock while playing these games. Posters in the halls change at will, a story of five children disappearing at the restaurant is displayed by changing news articles on the walls, and the most terrifying secret of all is the discovery of the hidden fifth animatronic, Golden Freddy. When Golden Freddy catches you, you are not taken to the typical game over screen but instead the entire game crashes. This is just a description of the first of several games created by the talented game designer, Scott Cawthon. Scott Cawthon also has a very interesting way of including Easter eggs (hidden items) in his games that make the game theorists go nuts. If you are interested in learning more about the hidden story behind these games head on over to “The Game Theorists” YouTube page to find out more. There is one final question that everyone in the Five Nights at Freddy’s fandom has been asking, what is Scott Cawthon going to do for the fifth anniversary for one of the most popular horror games in history? Only time will tell.
