Like most of us, sometimes we don’t think about the real impact food can have on our bodies. That one extra chocolate chip cookie you ate last night could lead you into the world of diabetes! Maybe instead of grabbing a healthy grilled chicken sandwich for lunch, you loaded up on a juicy bacon cheeseburger and fries and this can lead you to have clogged arteries putting you at a risk for heart disease. Now all of this sounds scary but there are some food substitutions that you can do every day to prevent yourself from loading up on junk which wreaks havoc on your body.

One major substitution you can make while baking is replacing sugar with applesauce! The only thing you must do different is cut your liquid ingredient such as milk or water by a fourth of a cup. There will be little to no taste difference and you won’t be loading up your body with sugar. Also while you are picking out your applesauce at the store, be sure to get unsweetened, this will cut down on sugar intake.

One fruit that often gets overlooked by most people is the avocado. This fruit is full of good fats your heart needs to stay healthy. Avocado is a great substitute for mayonnaise or cheese on a sandwich. You will get the creaminess of cheese or mayonnaise that you are craving while your heart gets a healthy boost!

Soda is one of the main causes of obesity around the world. The sugar content in one soda can be double that of a normal sized chocolate bar! The next time you are craving that fizzy sugary drink, you may want to opt for a healthier alternative. These alternatives can be anything from sparkling water to green tea based juices.

I hope that the next time you are at your local grocery store, you consider what the items in your cart can do to your body. You may start to regret that two dollar box of cookies when your suffering from diabetes.
